Team Projects

I think this project is a great opportunity for us to experience how people work together on projects in the business world. We have learned to colaborate as a whole and combining each individual idea into one central goal. Our biggest challenge was just finding a time for everyone to meet since we all have very busy schedules. It was also difficult when not all our team members showed up. I will definately take this experience and use what I have learned in future group projects I may have.

Miscommunication

Communication is very important when playing a team sport. When I used to play volleyball, we were constantly talking to our teammates on the court, telling hitters where to hit the ball, servers where to place it, and setters where to set it. This was extrememly important in winning a volleyball match and my team worked very hard at improving our communication. However, ometimes something would go wrong and miscommunication would occur. This lead to disaster. For example, during one of our matches I was going up to hit a ball from the middle of the court. The other team had been doing a double block the entire game, meaning there were only two girls at the net trying to stop my hit from going over. However, this time they decided to put three girls up there. Since I knew there were only going to be two blockers I was more focused on where to hit the ball on the court, and I failed to notice the third girl and ended up hiting the ball directly into her hands. If one of my teammates had yelled "triple" maybe I would have noticed the other blocker and changed my swing so that I could have made a better attack. Communication makes it easier, especially since it is so hard for one person to see the entire court. Im sure it is the same way in the business world. It is easier to come up with ideas or solutions to problems when everyone is communicating together instead of just trying to work on their own.

Mock Interview

I thought my interview went very well. I did not feel nervous before going in or during the interview. I did have a question that threw me about my best experience at Clemson that dealt with marketing. However I made up a story that seemed to fit! I learned that communicating during interviews kind of comes natural to me. During my next interview I would just be sure to read up on the company so that I could have good questions to ask the interviewer.

Presentations

One presentation I really enjoyed was Rob's on the historical events of October 3rd. I thought it was really creative and origional and it actually had some interesting information. For example, the fact that Abe Lincoln declared the date of Thanksgiving and that OJ Simpson was found not guilty on that day. I also enjoyed Kate's presentation on how to make Lemon Bars. I thought it was a great idea to make her handout the actual recipe. Plus I enjoyed the samples! And lastly, I thought Trevor's how to be a baller presentation was very entertaining. I believe that a presentation that keeps me listening and makes me laugh is a good one. And I liked the graphics on the power point slide.

I am loving the cooler weather that we have been experiencing for the past week. By living in Florida for the past two years, I have missed out on the changing seasons. I cannot wait for the leaves to start changing colors and it is great to be able to go to a football game and tailgate without being so hot! Another thing about the cooler fall weather is that it means that my two favorite holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas, are just around the corner. I enjoy Thanksgiving so much because I get to spend time with my family, watch football, and eat amazing food! And it reminds me that Christmastime is about to start!

Cover Letters

I was not aware that cover letters are usually only if the company is interested in you after reading and reviewing your resume. I would have thought they would read the cover letter first.

I believe the best advice the article gave was that it is important to draft your cover letters so that they relate to the company your sending it too. This is better than just mass mailing the same cover letter because the information you put in your letter will relate more to the company if it is customized.

I think the article is very useful and I agree with all the tips and pointers. I will definately use the cover letter checklist it gives at the end when writing my cover letters.

Job Interview

I read "Four Dont's When Dealing with Recruiters" and "How to Deal with Interview Stress" I think these two articles were very helpful. I feel like most people do get nervous and stressed before an interview. The decision of hiring you is in the hands of the one interviewer, so it is important to impress them. Having a bad interview could result in losing that particular job position, so there is a lot of pressure. I sometimes get stressed out, so the tips about breathing deeply, pausing if you cant think of something to say right away, and arriving ten minutes early are good tips for me to think about. That way I wont arrive late and be rushing and I wont say something irrelevent during an awkward silence. I also know now that I should not be overly nice in the interview, which I can see myself doing.

In 10 Years

In ten years I want to have a stable, good paying job. I am not one hundred percent sure what I want to be doing, but I definately want to have a top position in either the marketing or advertising feild, possibly a manager or supervisor. I also want to be married or at least in a serious relationship. I do not know if i will want to have kids by then, but I will hopefully be thinking about it. I want to own my own home and have a dog. I hope to still be close to my family and to have kept in touch with the friends I have made over the years. I want to have traveled part of the world, whether on vacation or through my career. I hope to be in good mental and physical condition and to just simply be happy with life.

Web 2.0

I think the title "Web 2.0... The Machine is Us/Ing Us" is very appropriate. It shows how connected people are today to the web. The title suggest that the internet in a sense is us. We created it and we are the ones that feed it information. However, we now depend on the web constantly as a society. It controls the way we communicate with others and the way we get our information.

The web also has a major impact in today's workforce. It allows people who are just entering the workforce to search for job opportunities, upload resumes, and even to apply for the career they want. People who are already in the workforce can send e-mails to co-workers to get important company information sent quicker and more efficient.

As technology improves, the web is constantly becoming faster and more massive. This causes us to reconsider the way we live. Information can be found nearly instantaniously. Hackers can obtain personnal information even easier than before. Viruses spread faster and can do more damage. E-mails and instant messanger replace face-to-face communication and people are becoming socially isolated. Although the web is extremely useful, it has its dangers. Life in today's society would be difficult without the internet, but we must be careful how dependent on it we really are.

About Me

I am a junior marketing major and just transfered to Clemson this semester. I spent the past two years playing volleyball for the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. I have had multiple knee surgeries that prevent me from playing anymore and, although I do miss playing, I am looking forward to being a "normal" college student and being able to have more of a social life. And I definately will not miss the 7 AM practices!

I decided to transfer to Clemson to be closer to my home in Charlotte and to go to a university that was in more of a college town rather than a big city. My last school was only ten minutes away from the beach, so I am definately going to miss that along with all the friendships I made there. However I am very excited to meet new people and to attend my first Clemson football game.

I enjoy spending time with friends and family and love being social. I also love being outside and staying active. I was born in Dallas, Texas and am a die-hard Cowboys fan. I am just waiting for Tony Romo to get his act together so we can win the superbowl this year!
